KÄ r

KÄ r is part of the work series My Room Your Room, in which Karl Karner understands space not as a static given, but as a dynamic process of negotiation. The apparent neutrality of space is scrutinized, deconstructed and reconsidered. In the spirit of our times, in which space is simultaneously a commodity, a privilege and a contested resource, the sculpture takes up its own space with an unyielding presence. KÄ r not only makes space visible, but also questions it: Who owns it? Who defines its boundaries? And what happens when space moulds itself?
In the development process, Karner creates temporary volumes under water with hot wax - fleeting formations that only appear in the liquid and yet leave traces behind. The sculpture thus becomes an echo of a transitory moment. The aluminium preserves the movement of the water, creating a presence that asserts its own space. KÄ r remains ambiguous in its appearance, eludes a final interpretation and becomes a mirror of its viewers. A body that is constituted anew in every perspective - a space that cannot be owned, but is always up for negotiation.
